two institutions cancelled just like that. for over forty years they've been on. i remember coming home as a kid in the late 60's to watch my mom's ''stories'' as she did her housekeeping. tommy lee jones on one life and his story. the woman who played adrian was the original rachel on AMC. the original vickie on OLTL was played brilliantly crazy originally by the woman who would be daisy on AMC. the buchanans thru the 80's. even today, though i don't follow the stories now i dvr for hot twink and steamy sex you can't find at night on regular tv. this changes everything!

Guiding Light, which ended a year or so ago, was the longest running soap in history. It started on the radio before moving to television. One Life to Live started in 1968 and All My Children followed in 1970.
