I received a phone call from my doctor last week who told me my cholesterol is sky high and I am at high risk for a heart attack or stroke. I go back in to see her in a couple weeks to talk to her about it and she wants to put me on meds. I have been doing some research on my own but would love some input from anyone here. I would prefer to go the diet route than to take nasty old pills. Any suggestions/tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Brenda

yea, a lot of factors can come into high cholestorol and hypertension. you can be genetically predisposed even if you are fit. but yea tv dinners and sodium and additives can add to the problem. plus other things.

the funny thing is my blood pressure is completely normal and I don't eat out much cause we can't afford it. I am overweight but certainly not obese. I am trying to convert all my recipes to make them healthier but dang its not easy. Now I always crave stuff I can't have.Worst of all was being told that coffee raises cholesterol so now I have had to switch mostly to tea and finding diet drinks is hard cause I can only stomach splenda Smile

So just got another call from my doctor. It is my triglycerides that are high. Normal is less than 1.7 and mine are 11.4. Monday she is going to put me on something called fenofibrate. Anyone use this?  Side effects are apparently minimal. Called some drug stores and it will cost $33 a month. That seems reasonable cause I was scared it was going to cost over $100.
