Total 100% denial, i.m.o.
I saw a photo of him on what had been the
Larry King Show - I forget the new guy's name
at the moment - He had said that he's totally fine -
I thought he looked thin and a bit of a mess.
Unfortunately, I think he's at a certain stage where
he considers it to be heavy partying - the addiction
i.m.o. is sort of elusive at that point - the whole "I
can quit any time I want!!!" thing. Meanwhile something
like a hundred people or more have been put out of work
because of this problem, and millions of dollars have been
lost - and he doesn't even perceive that as a serious problem.
By the way though, I think most people missed a reference he
made to "Wall Street," which I thought was actually pretty clever
and true - he said something about "walking up the steps to justice."
In that movie, that's exactly what his character does at the end.
Martin Sheen, playing his Dad in the movie, drove him there.
Charlie Sheen said to him in the car, "I'm going to JAIL, Dad!"
Martin S.'s answer was something like, "Maybe that's the best
thing FOR you right now." I'm suprised it hasn't been satirized on
SNL or something like that.
As for Martin Sheen -
"And how they come over him with
his WILDER days, not measuring
what USE he made of them!"
